About me
Hi! My name is Jaap Jumelet, and I am a post-doc in the group of Arianna Bisazza at the University of Groningen. Before that, I did a PhD at ILLC, University of Amsterdam, under supervision of Jelle Zuidema. A digital version of my PhD thesis, title Finding Structure in Language Models, can be found here.
My research focuses on the intersection of Natural Language Processing and Linguistics. I am interested in assessing the grammatical abilities of language models, and exploring the extent to which language model behaviour can inform linguistic theory. In my post-doc I focus in particular on topics related to language acquisition and typology, examining aspects related to the learnability of linguistic structure and connecting this to human language learning.
